Quick report

Weather

Ride Type

Riding Quality
Terrible
Snow Conditions
crusty

Went up to Stadium Glacier, hard icy crust made for poor quality skiing and difficult skinning. Several open creeks along Shannon Creek Rd. Observed several older size 2 avalanches, most likely from last weeks avalanche cycle.

Snowpack

We dug a pit and found a 3cm crust on top of 10cm of icy rain crust. Snow underneath these layers was wet. As we went higher to 1700m the surface crust became very hard and icy with no ski penetration.

Avalanche

Observed older avalanches in Shannon Creek and in the dense steep trees just west of Shannon Creek. Another older avalanche in Stadium Gully and on the steeper slopes around Stadium Glacier (see crown in second picture). We estimated that these were older than 48hrs based on rounded avalanche debris and layer of new snow.
