Storm snow (about 2 feet) slid on firm old wind packed snow

Avalanche

The avalanche scared my buddy and me. We both went for rides and were able to self arrest. I rode the slide quite far, maybe 1000 feet, and my friend not as far. We both got too complacent with snow conditions. We had skied maybe 2-300 vertical down slope (as a really rough guess), before the avalanche started. Very large powder cloud when the debris hit the valley floor.
