Still Decent Skiing To Be Found

Skied Surprise Pass today. This was my first day out in the Rockies this year so I can only compare to previous observations by others. It seems that the cold temperatures have started breaking down (faceting) the buried November crust in thinner snowpack areas. Outside of a few wind affected areas, there was little to no slab in the 20-50cm of snow overlying the crust.

There are starting to be quite a few tracks in the area but the skiing is still pretty good in a hunting and pecking at the ski hill kinda way. Still worth it just for the scenery!
