Snowpack appeared to compress and blow out the sides during compression but no layer cracks began until 15 (5-Elbow) 40cm from the top in a 150cm deep pit. Separation of the layers began at 18 (8-Elbow). Bonding between layers appeared to be relatively good in our test location. Unfortunately it was only on a 20 degree slope fairly close to the valley bottom.
