Snowpack
The snowpack below treeline is highly variable. In some places the height of snow is 80 cms, and in other spots on the same aspect there is bare ground. Where there is snow coverage on northwest to east-facing aspects the top 40 cm is faceted. The snow below the facets is four-finger to one -finger hard and supportable. On solar-aspects below treeline the facets were capped with an unsupportable crust. Near treeline the height of snow is 110-140 cms. In places where a wind drifted slab still exists it is 20 cms thick, and it is sitting over a mostly right side up, faceted snowpack. The faceting of the snowpack has increased ski penetration to about 10-15 cms, and there was some transport today with light, gusting moderate winds from the NW.
