The good news is that there's lots of new snow out there (below tree line at least), the bad news is there's not much to hold it up. Ski pen ranged from 45 to 100cm making the skin track look more like a mining operation. Ample trap doors kept descents interesting, especially in creek drainages and other facet farms. The alpine looked and felt wind hammered but ping-pong ball vis kept us below treeline. A hasty pit provided several easy sudden planars in the upper 30cm of new storm snow. More concerning were two layers at 45 and 65 cm down, that went with a sudden collapse at 11 and 15 taps, respectively. This made us think of step-down avalanches with surface stuffs having the potential to trigger much deeper layers as they gain mass and energy. Assuming you can stay afloat in the upper 30cm, there's some good skiing to be had. My advice is to bring the biggest board(s) you have. Wx was overcast, light snow (3cm), light upslope (easterly) winds which kept things chilly. Happy holidays everyone!
