Overcast skies. Very light snow at times with trace accumulation. Temps rose to 22°F at 10,000 ft and 13°F at 12,000 ft. Ridgetop winds increased in the afternoon, ranging from 15 to 30 mph, with gusts in the 40’s and 50’s.
Snowpack
Recent snow is wind affected at all elevations and stiffer near and above treeline (4F to 1F). All west-facing start zones are scoured down to old MFcr. One east facing slope above treeline showed 18†of 1F windslab over the MFcr. Avalanches: -Skier triggered 2 soft slabs on SE slopes above treeline, 8†deep, 40 ft wide on the MFcr (SS-ASc-R1/D1-I) -Notable natural windslab on SE aspect above treeline on Ruby Peak; probably failed last night or yesterday, 300 feet wide, estimated 24†deep failing on the MFcr interface.
