Thunderbird Ridge snowshoe

Super surprised from what I saw considering the heightened avalanche conditions. I couldn’t get any small features to move or crack and didn’t see any cracking in general, and there was no evidence of recent natural or human-triggered slides on any aspect from 1100-1300m.

26° slope, SSE aspect, open glades, 290cm snowpack. CTE 4 B on storm snow @282cm CTM 13 B on storm snow @270cm CTH 24 B on storm snow @257cm CTH 27 SP on facets/crust @245cm I was curious how the problematic facet/crust layer down 45cm would fair in an ECT. I had no results after all 30 taps, and it took quite a bit of force with my shovel to pop off the layer above it. This was only one location, so I’m unsure how stable this layer is in other aspects/elevations, and it will likely become more reactive with the coming precipitation and warmer temps.
