The forecast of strong winds and windslabs matched what we found at Proserpine. We saw blowing snow, trees swaying, and small branches breaking at all elevations. The strong wind was building pockets of windslabs behind every ridge crest, and rollover as well as cross-loading gullies. We tested these windslabs with sled cuts on small features and had no results. However, when isolated in a test profile these wind slabs produced sudden planar results. We decided to stay out of big complex terrain for now and rode low-consequence slopes. In the trees, we found good riding in soft snow.
