The Onion is not in good shape. The winds from last weekend have scoured the alpine down to the rocks, and made at least one small windslab avalanche in steep terrain. We found both surface hoar layers that have been widespread through the region. The lower layer of surface hoar is very reactive in snowpack tests. While walking around we felt numerous whumpfs on this layer.
