Snowpack

Group out for an AST 2 around whitewater. We were originally concerned about the Jan 30th layer but the Jan 14th layer lower down was more reactive. Many handshears were breaking off 40-60cm down on facets and surface hoar on top of the January 14th crust and some, but less, coming off roughly 20cm down on the January 30th surface hoar. Conducted an extended column test at 1940m on a NE aspect. Had an ECTN12 20cm down on the January 30th surface hoar and ECTP 14 down on the facets and surface hoar on top of the January 14th crust. Slopes and microfeatures above 35 degrees were very touchy and were easy to set off size 1s.

Avalanche

Set off several size 1s on slopes greater than 35 degrees.
