Guided a guest on Hero's Knob in Kananaskis. As to be expected, very thin coverage exists below tree line. Once above tree line the ski quality became good with up to 25cm of low density snow on top of the November 5th rain crust. Although this crust keeps you off the ground, many rocks are still lurking in the shallow snowpack. Snow depth above 2200m was 70-90cm. A natural cycle occurred during a wind event on Monday, which produced numerous loose dry avalanches out of steep terrain to size 1. Only the odd pocket of wind effect on the south aspect up to 2500m, with no cracking instability observed. Good skiing down to about 2000m, then back into the jungle. Ski crampons wouldn't be a bad idea if your route requires steeper skinning.
