Snowpack

Repeatable ECT N 5 failing on or below a rain crust 15cm deep in the snowpack. Above the crust is 15cm of 4F DFs. Below the crust is a layer of F DFs. We observed the Dec 9th rain crust ~80cm deep but did not get any results on this layer. Overall the snowpack is what I would describe as “rotten” with 4F 2mm FC to ground below the crust, and a mostly unconsolidated midpack that also appears to be faceting, with layers of buried PPgp and small FC.

Avalanche

2x Size 2 slab avalanches observed in alpine faces above the hut. Propagating wide, particularly around the toe of rock features. Did not observe depth so unknown if within storm or on persistent layer, but looked to be 50+cm deep.
