Cornice failed while bootpacking Cheops ridge about 100 m before the entrance for the shelf. Failed on pole plant and propagated 30 m (15 on either side of the pole plant). Other cracks propagated on the other side of the uptrack. The group felt a whoumpf. Cornice size was 30x1.5x1 m. Belayed a group member to the edge of the ridge. No slab triggered by cornice.
