Simpson area

Field trip to Simpson Burn. Breakable crust on the snow surface until 1600 m (first 400 m) then nice soft powder above (to 2000 m). Upper part great skiing; lower part desperate zig zags. @1800 m 16 cm of soft surface snow with no wind effect over thin layer of surface hoar to 5 mm. CTM13 SP x2. No slab above = no problem today. HS 130-150 cm and very weak facets throughout. @2030 m 14 cm soft surface snow with no wind effect over small facets buried March 12. CTM 15 RP. No slab. HS 175 cm.
