Avalanche

Fairly good visibility to look at steep road cuts and avalanche paths around Silver Plume, Georgetown, and Bakerville. Very little avalanche activity from the past storm was observed. There was no evidence of any slab avalanches. A few Loose Dry avalanches ran naturally on north facing slopes during the storm but were small relative to the path. The Loose Dry avalanches gouged down into most of the storm snow but did not fan out and were thin in width. Recent Loose Wet avalanches, most likely from today, were observed on the east shoulder of Mount Bethel in steep, southeast facing terrain. These avalanches were D1 to D1.5 in size.---The new snow is providing some coverage in avalanche paths down I-70 that were bare ground all year and I assume in most winters. The smoothing-out of terrain roughness at the ground could be a factor for avalanches to run further than usual as another upslope storm approaches for this weekend.
