Monsters in the Basement

As usual, we found the snow here a lot shallower and weaker than in the neighboring Lizard Range/Flathead bulletin area. The monsters in the basement are still very much alive out here, even if it seems like they are taking a nap and hiding from the frigid temperatures for now. Triggering a large avalanche on a persistent weak layer is still on our radar in areas like the Alexander Drainage. The snowpack is very wind affected in open areas which means both windslabs, and some horrible riding conditions. We observed one large avalanche from the past week that speaks to the kind of propagation still possible.
