Snowpack

Close to two feet of new snow fell in this portion of the North San Juan zone during our most recent storm cycle. Evidence of moderate to strong wind-loading with deeper pockets of wind-drifted snow easily over three feet deep below ridges and on cross-loaded terrain features.

Avalanche

Observed widespread natural avalanche cycle on all aspects and elevations. Too many avalanches to keep track of. Majority of slides were D2's with a few D3's running close to full path. Avalanches failed on both storm snow interfaces and deeper persistent weak layers near the ground.
