Weather

Clear Skies, warm temperatures, and light winds. The Eagle weather station at 12,852' recorded above freezing temperatures by 8am.

Snowpack

Running water observed under the snowpack in both of the gully features of the Eagle avalanche path. The surface of the snowpack was refrozen, but did not always support our weight. Parts of the gully that faced south or southeast were the weakest and we avoided them as much as possible. The average snowpack height was just under a meter and water had percolated to the ground. Rocks were poking through the snow surface, accelerating the melting process. General overview: Crust over mush. The surface crust started breaking down and we turned around early due to wet avalanche hazard.

Avalanche

Large loose wet avalanche out of the Eagle. Occurred after 12 pm.
