Weather

Pleasant but windy-lots of snow transporting from S-SW-W into N leeward slopes

Snowpack

Touchy, variable, wind slab, trap door, hard to carry speed and a few good turns. Multiple large settlements, wumphs, cracks etc, on lower angle terrain. Down the road was the most consistent skiing. You get the idea. Not the worst first day of the season. Overall very tender snowpack conditions. Not confidence inspiring, don't be the trigger kind of snowpack.

Avalanche

North facing terrain on Sam's- the ridge up higher and the gullys. Several steep rollovers on Red Mountain Pass, east-west- and north aspects. The west facing slide above road already mentioned , Looked like storm snow slid on a previously mentioned sandwich of crusts on westerlies. Variety of other pockets along 550 from Coal Bank north.
