Great day in the Core Lodge- conditions were solid however there are a few concerns to consider in the snowpack and with respect to incoming weather in the next few days. There is a reactive Persistent Surface Hoar layer down 25 cms and another facet interface down 40cms. Wind slabs were on the menu today and 50+km winds were redistributing snow leading to cornices and slab potential. Plus temps close to double digits later this week will potentially see falling cornices and increasingly easier triggering of the surface Hoar and facet layers- "a warm snowpack is good- as long as it's not above zero " have fun but beware of increasing hazard with warm forecasted temps!
