Weather
Temps in the mid-20s, light snow, winds from the west at 5-10 MPH.
Snowpack
Open Snow estimated 18 inches of new snow in the preceding 48 hours. We encountered at least that much new snow during the hike in.
Avalanche
We saw evidence of a large avalanche on the E aspect of the Second Creek headwall that appears to have slid from near the cornice at the top of the ridge at ~11,800' with debris all the way down to ~11,240'. Light was poor and we kept a safe distance, but debris can be seen in the photo. We didn't witness the avalanche, but it likely occurred 1/6 or 1/7.
