Weather
Sunny to start, but clouds moved in during the duration of the tour. Winds light out of the northwest. Temperatures mild estimated around 30 degrees F.
Snowpack
Recent winds have done a number to exposed northerly slopes above treeline. The snow surfaces on north facing slopes was firm or wind-pressed with a breakable surface. On south facing slopes above treeline smooth and rounded pockets of snow were are evidence of recent wind-loading, but were stiff and hard to get an edge into. On south facing slopes near and below treeline a thin sun crust was breaking down by mid-afternoon. We experienced 2 large whumpfs in isolated dish features on a southwest facing slope above treeline near McMillan Peak. Digging down on those slopes a very weak and shallow (<70cms) snowpack consisting of crust and facets. This was the first whumpf I have experienced since the holiday storm.
