Avalanche

A snowboarder triggered, caught, and was partially buried, uninjured, by a large avalanche in an area locally know as "Idiot's Cornice," near Loveland Pass. The avalanche released above treeline, on an east-facing slope. The avalanche broke on weak snow near the ground. The crown was estimated as eight feet deep. Loveland Ski Patrol responded to the reported avalanche and met the party of 4 snowboarders at the trailhead. The group had no avalanche education or rescue equipment.
