We took a quiet day to check out the Healy pass area. Coming out of the tree line at the pass we skied the first ridge on the right. We were content to stop at about 2325m, or about 100m from the ridge proper and begin descending. Above the tree line the snow became slightly heavier but still fairly loose lose powder, with no noticeable crust on top. The sun peeked through the clouds for a few hours in the afternoon and it felt like the temperature rose a few degrees. The snowpack reflected this, becoming slightly heavier. We observed some pretty impressive cornices over the avalanche paths on the way up and as well on the Monarch Ramparts. No sign of anything giving recently over the course of the trip but the sun certainly was having its impact on the snow. Ct on a 20 degree, south facing aspect of sparse trees at about 2275m. W5 - 10-15cm loose unconsolidated snow overtop a hard layer. On the skin up our skis were rarely breaking trough this hard layer above the tree line. E7 below that with no propagation across the layer between 30-45cm down. No reactivity below that.
