We had a great day in the upper Russel creek drainage on Jan 26. We skied north and north east facing terrain between 2300-1500m. There was 15 to 20 cm of low density new and faceted snow on the Jan 13 crust (or previous wind affect in alpine) which is breaking down with prolong temperature gradient. Height of snow at treeline was 250cm. We did a test profile at 2130m on a NE aspect and had a sudden compression test moderate (17) down 45cm on the Jan 11 layer with small broken particles to 2mm. We observed no signs of instability in this area.
