during column test a fracture was noticed 20cm from surface after 12 compressions. however the fracture did not pop or drop. the column stayed together and there was no concern to proceed with simple or challenging terrain. there was no propagation in the extended column test but the same fracture occurred 20cm from surface exactly where the fresh snow met with the higher density snow. worth noting but not concerning would be that there was a clean break 90cm down on a rain layer after a significant amount of force was placed on the columns. This is not concerning but was observed.
