calm at the lot, 38 degrees, at the summit of russel colder with light to moderate winds out of the west, south west
Snowpack
few inches of snow getting blasted by sun on the east face while touring up, as soon as we reached the saddle obvious sign of windloading, lots of wind transport above tree line
Avalanche
after poking around the west facing flank of the chute adjacent to north chute, snow felt thick and wind affected but no slab formation. dropped in, took one turn on the east facing flank anticipating a small slab. small wind slab released, rider was able to ski out and under rocks to face spot. no one was caught or injured.
