Cold morning with clear skies warming up significantly by noon. Light northerly breeze and not notable wind transport.
Snowpack
The snow is noticeably more supportable in this area compared to most of the Elk Mountains and is mostly made up of new, soft snow at the top, a thick (30-50cm) slab 1F hard on the Hand Hardness Scale supporting the weight of skis and snowmobiles but often not feet, and a 4F- hard persistent weak layer of facets underneath the slab down to the ground. South and west-facing aspects had several melt-freeze crusts in the middle of the snowpack and were supportable to skis and feet. 6.1 inches of SWE measured at 11,000 feet on Burnt Mountain which is the same as the nearby Ivanhoe SNOTEL station at about 10,500 feet reporting 6.1 inches of SWE on December 28.
