On south-facing aspects there was an unsupportable 10 cm crust below treeline. Height of snow was variable with bare ground showing through in many places. Near treeline height of snow ranged from 85-110 cm on W through E aspects. At 11,600' on an ENE aspect HS was 107 cm. There were several crust below the the 13 cm of new snow. The most concerning layer was 2cm of near surface facets that sits under most of the snow that fell in December (20 cm down). This was the layer I was consistently triggering whumpfs in once I got near treeline. I had an ECTP11 in this layer.
