Fraser Chutes

We skied several laps in the Fraser Chute area up to 1300 m elevation; and at our highest elevation we just poked into the alpine. No whumpfing or cracking observed. Our observations included 20 cm of powder overlying a mid-snowpack that includes denser snow and crusts. We did not dig and as such I cannot comment on the presence of surface hoar in the area of the chutes. Treeline snow depths were variable, anywhere from 20 cm to 120 cm on a south aspect. At treeline, and above, the snow on the south aspect changes with wind affect – there were areas of hard slab present - and we were careful when transitioning into this terrain as it very different than the snowpack below treeline. Below treeline we found sheltered conditions, and soft snow. Some of the ridges adjacent the chutes were down to bare rock, and some of the chutes are still rocky. Winds remain mostly light throughout the day, with the occasional stronger gust. Lots of people out in the Fraser area, nice to see everyone giving each other space to play.
