Skinning along ridgeline, intentionally moved a couple metres downslope to see if we could get a failure from safe location, where slope angle changed from <30 degrees to >35. Avalanche cleaned out small open glade and ran fast to low angle bench below. We dug a fracture line profile and got a Compression Test Moderate (Sudden Planar) down 55cm on buried surface hoar size 8-12mm. This validated our decision to avoid steep, sparsely treed terrain today! Note: photo shows observer measuring slope incline.
