clear early turning to thin cloud cover in the after noon.

Snowpack

I doug three hasty pits in the avalanche gulleys below tree line. The results were all similar. The pack was about 100 cm deep. The top 25cm was new snow, fist hard. there was then a hard (pencil) inhibiting layer about 4cm. Below that was all depth hoar ranging from 4 to 6 mm getting larger towards the ground. During shear the pack collapsed as soon as the inhibiting layer was broken.
