Weather

Above freezing at start with strong winds from NW; temp dropped and precip increased with elevation gain; Wx obs at 9950' -5C, M from NW, M BloSno, S-1+ (with occasional intense bursts of graupel), OVC.

Snowpack

Warm temps and wind produced moderately dense storm slab, stiffening throughout the day with localized cracking and wumphing. Spx obs above old Caribou townsite at 9950', E aspect, 30deg: PenFoot 60cm, HS 215, HS24 ~20cm F, ~10cm alternating 1F wind boards with F DF layers, 30cm F buried storm slab over mid-pack slab 4F-1F. CTM dwn 20cm at new precip/old storm interface, CTM SC Q1 dwn 30cm on rimed DF sitting on wind board; PSTN dwn 80cm (mid-pack slab/FC interface), possibly due to low angle at profile site.
