Felt wintry on north-facing slopes even with the warm temperatures.
Snowpack
The usual poor snowpack structure was identified on northerly slopes. Below treeline the slab is faceting quickly and the snowpack is thin and unsupportable and stability is very good. Near to above treeline southerly slopes are thin and show signs of previous rollerballing. Northerly slopes are wind worked with a very uneven distribution of snow cover. In general the snowpack is shallow with hard surface slabs up to a foot thick. The thicker slabs are very pockety and hard enough that you cannot poke your pole into the snowpack.---Although we had several small collapses in flat rocky areas near treeline, we experiences no obvious signs of instability while traveling across slopes or near avalanche terrain.---The bottom line is this area showed our Persistent Slab avalanche problem to be stubborn and isolated. Caution should still be used around pockets of hard wind-drifted snow as a person could trigger a small avalanche in isolated area or extreme terrain.
Avalanche
At least four old avalanches in the Current Creek basin. Two of these avalanches were large. They may have happened on 11/17 or during the wind event of 11/21.
