Snowpack
the ranch is on the south side of owl creek rd., north facing slope, running from W buttermilk lift to burnt mtn area. We have several miles of trails we groom for the owner when she is in town. They have not been groomed since last saturday. Today while on a big nordic loop my skis kept balling up. No matter how many times i cleared them the would ball up with snow again. When I joined back up with my previous tracks I noticed the tracks glissened with free water. There was so much water in the pack that the pressure of my skis brought it out an made the bottoms of the skis wet. Even in the shades spots the snow was wet and clumpy. tomorrow I will go back up and examine the pack on about a 35 degree angle, north facing, below tree line at 10,500 feet and make more detailed observation of the effect of the water in this snow pack
