Quick trip out to sample new HN on polar Sweet Sixteen. Estimated 10 cm new sitting on 25 cm 4F higher density wind pressed snow. No slab. Probed the odd weak facetted area at sides of final steep concave slope up to col, nearer to rock outcrops on skiers left. Old trax 2/3 covered and soft. Sluffing of HN off of Mt. Smith Dorrien face.
Avalanche
Observed 5 recent Na avalanches estimated >48 hours old from recent storm activity over the last few days. 1 - Sz 1.5, NE asp, 30 deg, SSL, 2400m, natural cornice triggered off NE face of Smith Dorrien, 20-50cm crown at single point of release and fanning out below. Ran 100m to slope angle decrease. Soft blocks in debris. 3 - Sz 1.5, NW asp, 35 deg, SSL, 2350m, natural slab from recent loading lookers left above bottom of basin on lee slope just above treeline. Ran 2/3 of track. Soft blocks in debris.
