Observations made Dec. 3rd on S and SW aspects between approx. 1250 and 1300 m elevation, between Fourth Knoll and the Memorial Rock at the top skier’s left of Fay-zurs. Soft windslab 8-12 cm thick on surface where lee to easterly and northeasterly winds. Hand pull tests showed a somewhat poor bond under the slab. The Nov. 21 rain crust seemed relatively well bonded to the drier low density underlying snow. Snow cover still looks thin on the slope above Fay-zurs, probably partially from wind scouring, but also because it’s still early season! The Nov. 21 rain crust was supportive for skiing down to the Waterfall creek, though the 10-20 cm of recent snow on top of the crust quickly changes from dryish at the top of Fay-zurs to moist in the creekbed. Skiing wasn’t bad; could’ve been better but it couldn’t been a lot worse.
