Barnes Lake

Sledding and poking around in the Barnes Lake / Limestone Ridge area today under an overcast / foggy sky - - - nope, that forecasted sun+cloud was just .... cloud :-( Here’s some thoughts for the weekend: # Snowpack is 1m (stumps / rocks?) # no natural or human triggered avalanches observed # no signs of instability BUT # that mid-Nov weak layer is now 70+cms down in this area …. which means it is becoming progressively harder to trigger, SO, if it does go, there’s much more snow to be buried under! # What was our take-away? ……. this wasn't the day for those big steeps, big bowls, or big highmarks …. BUT that was ok, 'cos the upper part of the snowpack is light dry pow, which sleds and skis REALLY nicely on that lower angle terrain !
