Intermittent snow showers and mostly cloudy sky kept the snow surface from only getting moist and limited wet avalanche activity.
Snowpack
Another inch of new settled snow on the surface caps a total of 17 inches of storm snow from the last week. A brief break in the storm on 3/19 allowed for a small layer of facets to form and then get buried on 3/20-22. This can be seen 25cm below the surface. Clean moderate shears with stability tests. The surface got moist today but wet activity was limited due to intermittent snow showers and clouds. My goal was to gather more information about the crust/facet layers that have been a primary focus of avalanche activity on southeast aspects much of the winter. These layers have undergone numerous significant melt/freeze cycles and are now very strong in the frozen state. The snowpack in this zone is getting much closer to the spring regime.
