Wind-blown slab over shallow, faceted base. East-North-East aspect. 11,300 ft.
Avalanche
R1.5/D1.5. Ran about 200 horizontal ft down the mountain and (estimate) 100 vertical feet from the crown. Triggered remotely on slope less than 30 degrees from approximately 50 ft away from the edge of the slide path and approximately 30 vertical feet below the crown. Span of avalanche was approximately 75 ft wide. Depth of crown varied from 18” to 30” deep. Witnessed the slide happen as we were making turns adjacent to the avalanche. It was impressive how far away we were from the avalanche and on shallower slope angles for it to still be triggered and slide.
