Weather

Clear and cold to start the morning. Sunshine and warmer temperatures by 1000. Winds were remarkably light with only intermittent gusts from the north northwest.

Snowpack

There is continuous snow in Waterhole #1 while the other more west-facing paths in the East Roaring Fork avalanche area are mainly scoured with some snow in the Waterhole gullies but it looks wind-pressed and shallow. West Roaring Fork avalanche area has not impacted the closed highway yet this winter. There were several small loose snow avalanches and it was difficult to tell if there had been a slab avalanche here during the holiday storm series. See profile from near Waterhole #1.

Avalanche

We observed many old avalanches in non-highway paths along SH82. Observations will be coded in additional field reports.
