Front Range

East and southeast aspects near treeline: Snow is shallow but otherwise becoming typical wind-blasted Front Range snowpack. Snow depths ranged from scoured ground to 150 cm. Common to all areas was about 30 cm of depth hoar at the bottom of the snowpack. I encountered isolated but large collapses, mostly in areas where the snowpack was about 60 to 90 cm deep and had a layer of 1F-hard snow capping the depth hoar. Today's drifting snow was still soft (4F to 1F), thin, and just starting to crack.

East aspects below treeline:Snowpack depth is 60 to 90 cm. It's generally supportable to travel on skis. Some spots are completely faceted and unsupportable--classic "trap door" structure. Winds have been strong enough to drift some snow on open slopes below treeline.
