East and southeast aspects above treeline: Top of snowpack was a 10 cm crust that has been undergoing melt-freeze. Began softening by 09:00, and was becoming unsupportable by 11:00. Underlying layers are damp or dry. The layer recent avalanches likely broke on is dry, small facets about 45 cm below the snow surface.

West aspects near and above treeline: Winds keep snow surface cooler, and it was just beginning to soften around 11:00. Snow from late April storms was scoured of many of these slopes, and there was not as distinct layers of faceted snow under the surface crust.
