Skiing was great in the north facing trees today. About 8" of new snow total. Observed a recent natural D1 wind slab avalanche on a cross-loaded north aspect at about 3200ft. Crown was roughly 30cm thick. Probably ran during the last 24 hours. Snowpack: upper ice crust decomposing and not holding up human weight very well. Beneath it is about 15cm of 2mm facets (Fist-soft). The same exists beneath the next ice crust. Overall very poor snowpack structure. Originally posted by Erik Stevens on alaskasnow.org
