Spring conditions continue in the White Pass, but with a clearing in the weather we managed to get high into north facing alpine. We found some excellent skiing in the feather peak area, and heard reports of other groups having great skiing on north facing alpine terrain on both sides of the highway. We found about 15 cm of new dry snow at our highpoint (1700m) and slightly moist lower down (1300m) from the past week, which overlies a very thin melt-freeze crust. Below the crust is an additional 20 cm overlying the April 4th crust. The upper crust is very thin and is unsupportive to a skier or sledder. Its a great time to be out in the White Pass, avalanche conditions are minimal and if you work for it, the snow is great!
