Nothing new or surprising to report: the snowpack remains thin (generally 10"-15" deep) and variable depending on aspect and elevation. The faceting process has been hard at work during the long stretch of dry and seasonably cool weather, leaving a weak and cohesionles snowpack, especially on northerly slopes btl. Many southerly slopes have burnt out to dry ground. East and west slopes remain thin with surface crusts .5" to 2" thick sitting on well developed faceted grains. Winds last week left areas of hard slab on slopes above treeline. While not of particular concern now, it is a poor foundation upon which to build the upcoming winter's snowpack...
