Snowpack

Generally, a weak snowpack. Below the treeline snow depth was about 40cm with the upper 10cm being storm snow from Sunday and the rest to the ground was 30cm of facets. Ski penetration was to the ground. On northerly aspects above treeline, the snowpack got a little more supportive, and we observed small pockets of isolated wind slabs and some localized cracking. A snow profile showed no true slab to be able to transmit a failure on an extended column test, but easy compression test results suggest that as soon as a slab is introduced, things will change rapidly. Easterly aspects at treeline had very little structure with soft snow to the ground apart from in a few isolated gully locations. Southerly slopes above treeline had very little snow coverage.
