We did a nice sunny lap into canyon creek. It was quite windy on the ridge, and the snow had been wind effected up high. Mid slope was soft powder and the bottom section had been slightly sun effected. As we skinned out, we noted the snow getting wetter and heavier. As we reached the top section of the skin out, our options were to switch back multiple time in the steep treed area or cut out on top of the convexities. We opted to follow a contour line above a convexity, one person at a time. My partner waited in the trees in a safe area as I took the first step onto the open section of the slope. My first step sent a 3ft crack down slope, we knew that this was not going to be the best option for travel, I put one more step down with the expectation of something happening and we got a large loud settlement on the slope. We turned around and ended up sending it through the steep trees with enough switch backs to make a man dizzy. Avoided all convexities for the rest of the day.
