Gorgeous morning, very calm winds throughout tour, no blowing snow at any elevation, clear sky, -10 degree air temp in a shaded N facing snowpit at 10,280'.
Snowpack
If facets where worth anything I could be rich after today... Below a recent melt freeze crust at 99cm, every layer had faceting present in some capacity. At the base, old facets were healing and rounding, with larger-more angular facets sitting on top. An odd layer sat above, P hard, comprised of very small rounds with sharp corners. This proved to be both a bed surface and weak layer for the slab, lacking cohesion, to fail on. This slab did not propagate failure well. Below 9500', noticeably more dirt was evident on the egress on sunny corners of the Thomas Lakes trail. HS ranged from 20-60cm below 9500' on aspects holding snow.
